Pasifika Festival

This weekend the Fabulour Four went to the Pasifika Festival that was going on in Western Springs Park. It was a festival celebrating the different Pacific islands: Samoa, Tonga, Aotearoa (NZ), Tahiti, Fiji, Tuvalu, Tokelau, Kiribati, and the Cook Islands. Each island had its own little village, or section of the park. You could visit each village and see the different tents set up with all sorts of different things to buy and eat. Each village also had a stage set up for different traditional dances to be performed by the people of that region. While we were walking around the park, we saw tons of ducks, swans, and....Pukekos! This is a native NZ bird that I have come to love. They are so funny with their long, finger-like toes. When they run, they look like a track sprint-runner, reaching their legs out in front of them as far as they will go. It's pretty funny to watch.
Anna having fun chasing the pukekos.
